Dear parent/guardian
I am very excited to introduce myself. My name is Christa Schmelinsky and I will be filling the position of one of two Grade 6 teachers at Davison School while Mrs. Lechner is on maternity leave. I am originally from Springside SK, which is about 40 minutes from Melville. I attended school at Springside Elementary, Yorkdale Central, and the YRHS in Yorkton where I was heavily involved in the music department. Throughout my secondary schooling I coached figure skating and taught private music lessons around Yorkton and Melville. Since I am "from the area", I couldn't be more thrilled to be able to teach close to home.
As you may or may not know, I completed my internship this past autumn at Davison, studying under Mr. Lechner in room 501. I received my Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Regina following this internship.
During my time here I had the opportunity to meet the 600 class and learn a lot about each student. I have been, and will continue working alongside great staff members (including Mrs. Lechner) to figure out the needs of each student and ensure they can successfully transition from Grade 6 to Grade 7. (Elementary School to High School!!) I believe that it is of the utmost importance that your child has the best possible learning experience for the remainder of Grade 6, and I will do my best to help your child reach his or her full potential in all subject areas.
Fortunately I had the opportunity to sit down with Mrs. Lechner so I am aware of the general procedures for this class. Many things will remain the same; however there are some changes we have had to make. Please note the following:
-I will use Mrs. Lechner’s Gradebook Portal so you may continue to monitor your child’s academic progress from the same place.
-Everything that is important to room 600 will be posted on my blog daily. Much like Mrs. Lechner’s blog, I will post due dates, homework assignments, upcoming events, and other important information about what is happening in our classroom. Mrs. Lechner’s blog will no longer be active so you may wish to update your bookmarks to our new one which can be found at http://dav600.blogspot.com
-I have started a new Grade 600 calendar which you may view from one of the tabs on my blog. This is just another way to organize upcoming school events, test dates, etc.
-Any other changes I have not mentioned will be placed on my blog home page as they happen and noted in agendas.
Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, comments, or concerns by e-mail at cschmelinsky@mail.gssd.ca or by phone at 728-4964. Please let me know your preferred way of contact, as I believe communication is extremely important at this time in your child's life.
I look forward to meeting you all at interviews next month!
Sincerely,
Miss Schmelinsky (Miss S.)
