Bohemian Rhapsody
When it was released, Bohemian Rhapsody was the most expensive song ever produced
It's Queen's most famous song and was written by the band's lead singer Freddie Mercury. It doesn't have a chorus and instead has three parts: a ballad ending with a guitar solo, an opera passage, and it ends with hard rock.
The reason for the single being so expensive probably lies with the fact that it was a truly unprecedented song. Many people consider it ahead of its time because of how complex some of the techniques they used to record it.
The band rehearsed for 3 weeks before recording it, and the whole song took 3 weeks to record after that! The song wasn't recorded all at once, but in different sections. Mind you, some of these sections weren't just at different times of the song, but also different layers of the song.
The vocals were also extremely complex. Some of the opera chorus vocals were recorded continually for 10 to 12 hours a day, and they pushed the limits of what the current recording tapes allowed them to do. To give you an example of the kind of stuff they did, they had 120 vocal tracks that they had to fit in 24-track tapes.
In the end, though the result was one of the best songs of all time, and a song that has stayed in public consciousness until this day.

A woman had a waist that is about as wide as a jar of mayonnaise
Cathie Jung of Old Mystic, Connecticut has a waist that is only 15 inches wide! Her strange body type stems from the fact that she has worn corsets every days for over 12 years. She claims now to wear corsets 24 hours a day and boasts a collection of over 100 varieties!
She's not a naturally small person either. Her hips and bust are each 39 inches. In 1985, Jung decided to spend the next 7 years shrinking her waist. She imported corsets from England, and gradually worked her way down to her current size. She likes how it looks, but her daughter objected to her showing up to her school looking like that.
Her Guinness Records page. Or, if you want to see more pictures of Jung and her tiny waist, check out her website.

Ants can be used as stitches!
Ants can be used as stitches.
The ant can be placed on a cut, and the ant will bite the edges. It will lock on with its mandibles sealing the wound closed like a stitch or a suture. At this time you can remove the ant from it mandibles. The mandibles can remain in place for days as the wound heals.
You can watch this video to see how it works!

In 61 years, the 24 rabbits introduced to Australia for sport grew to 400 million! Every year, these non-native animals cause millions of dollars of crop damage.
A pioneer named Thomas Austin brought the rabbits from England to his property in Australia for hunting. The rabbits reproduced so fast that 10 years later, 2 million rabbits were being shot annually without making a dent in the population. It was the fastest spread ever recorded of any mammal anywhere in the world.
The rabbits have devastated crops and native plant species, killed young trees in orchards and contributed to erosion by digging up topsoil. The rabbit problem has gotten so bad that Australians have resorted to using poison, bulldozers, and ferrets to keep the population at bay.
On the plus side, during the Great Depression there was always a readily available food supply.

Your thumb and fingers don't have ANY muscles.
You might be thinking that we move everything by remote control, because the brain is what controls everything. But the fingers are special because of their lack of muscle.
Fingers are moved by tendons, pulled by muscles in the forearm. That's why if you flex your fingers, you can feel the muscles in your forearm. You could say that we don't directly control our fingers at all.
The muscles in the forearm and palm are connected to the finger bones by smooth, flexible strings called tendons. The way our finger joints bend is by the muscles pulling on these tendons.
This is partly why many people can't bend their pinkies all the way without also bending their ring fingers. These muscles operate somewhat like strings on a marionette.
The total muscle count involved is 17 in the palm of the hand and 18 in the forearm. It's pretty interesting that the parts of our body that we use so frequently are completely devoid of muscles.

Taiwanese scientists have made glowing green pigs!

These pigs had jellyfish genetic material added to them when they were still embryos. During the day, the pigs have a greenish tinge to their skin, and have partially green eyes and teeth. In the dark, however, their entire bodies glow a bright green. Amazingly, not only did this first generation of gene-transplanted pigs successfully glow in the dark, but their natural offspring inherited this ability as well.

One man invented Band-Aids, granola bars, plastic ketchup bottles, microwaveable containers and disposable diapers!
One man invented Band-Aids, granola bars, plastic ketchup bottles, microwaveable containers and disposable diapers!
His name is Stanley Mason and he died in 2006 at 84-years old. In his long and productive career, he had over 60 US-patents under his name. The most impressive thing is that they are things extremely varied in nature. In his career he worked as a professional inventor, working with many corporate clients to create products.
Some credit his success to his process. Before he even starts designing an invention, he first discovers the need for a product. If he realizes that there are many people who would buy his invention; then he spends time inventing it. This process led him to invent things as varied as band-aids, granola bars, and disposable diapers.

Random Fact - Pluto
Sunlight takes 5 ½ hours to reach Pluto.
The speed of light is 186,287 miles per second. It only takes 499 seconds (a little over 8 minutes) for light to travel from the Sun to Earth. You get a broad idea of just how large our solar system is when you think about it in this way:
186,287 miles/second x 5 ½ hours (330 seconds) = 61,474,710 miles to Pluto from the Sun!

Popsicles were invented by an 11-year-old!
It took him 18 more years to actually patent the darn thing, and he called it the Epsicle ice pop. His children renamed it Popsicle until they sold it in 1925. It took the Great Depression for another genius to come up with the idea for the twin popsicle, which is just two popsicles stuck together. I think I'll melt three together and call it a Three Headed Monsticle and make millions!

It's their ability to anticipate future events based on past occurrences and the ability demonstrate self-control. Chickens are also able to feel stress, another feeling they were not previously thought capable of having, which raises a red flag for animal rights advocates because of the implications associated with being killed for food.
