Popsicles were invented by an 11-year-old!

Much like Marie Curie's discovery of radioactivity, this milestone in chemistry was discovered by accident. Frank Epperson was just an 11 year old kid when he left his fruit flavored soda outside his porch, with a stirring stick in it. Presumably because it was cold, or because the gods of invention came down to help him, the soda froze and he found that it had retained it's flavor. Eureka!
It took him 18 more years to actually patent the darn thing, and he called it the Epsicle ice pop. His children renamed it Popsicle until they sold it in 1925. It took the Great Depression for another genius to come up with the idea for the twin popsicle, which is just two popsicles stuck together. I think I'll melt three together and call it a Three Headed Monsticle and make millions!
