The enemies in Angry Birds were inspired by swine flu!
In an interview with game developer Rovio Mobile’s Ville Heijari, the origins of the rascally swine were revealed. In 2009, during the game’s development, the swine flu epidemic was at its height, and so the game’s creators were inspired to make green, sickly pigs. The developers at Rovio Mobile estimate that fans of Angry Birds play the game for over 1 million hours each day on iPhones alone!
